My Most Anticipated New Releases

This year of new releases is going to be a doozy.

I have listed all of the new releases that I would pay A LOT of money or sell my soul to get a hand on them right now. I love all the fantasy books I have read this year. I already read Divine Rivals and Divine Rivals, but I desperately need their sequels. Their sequels are coming out in less than a year but I am so excited to read them.

Here is my list, in order of preorders I have already bought or anticipate buying.

First up we have A Curse For True Love, the thrilling conclusion to the Once Upon a Broken Heat series. It is out October 24, 2023.

The next is the sequel to Iron Flame I wish came out as soon as I finished the first book, but is instead coming out November 7, 2023.

With Heartstopper the Show coming out recently, I am so excited for this December 19 release to finalize the print Heartstopper series.

Divine Rivals was my favorite book this year so far. I cannot wait for Ruthless Vows on December 26.

Lastly, while not a 2023 release, I cannot stop talking about Ali Hazelwood’s turn into the omegaverse on February 6, 2024.

My Review:

This was so cute!

The book and the show are so good! I have all positive things to say about both, so the review is going to be a mix of both.

Agh!!! I was reading Volume 2 in the library and I kept squealing. Thankfully I was not in the quiet study section.

Literally, Nick and Charlie are my favorite couple ever! They are so cute and unproblematic.

The illustrations are amazing in the book. I love their interactions and all the little leaves floating around. It is just so cute. That was one of my favorite things about the show, that they had the leaves floating around whenever something good happened.

I feel like the show brought so much more to the characters. I was so impressed by the casting. They found a perfect Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. The background characters, Tao (what was up with his hair?), Elle, Dary, and Tara were all perfect. They literally look exactly like their characters in the drawings.

We also got more background and got to see the characters interact without Charlie and Nick which was so fun. I really love the Tara and Darcy storyline. It was really interesting to see more of their character and more of their coming out as a couple.

All the tension and cuteness of the comic were in the show. It was so refreshing to have such a well-done book-to-movie adaptation. There were a few things missing and there were a few things added, but it was so amazing.

I binged the whole show in a day and I read Volume 2 within a day. I am obsessed with their story and I want a season 2. I cannot wait to read Volume 3.

As always, thanks for reading,

Author: Alice Oseman

Series: Heartstopper #1

Published May 5th, 2020 by Graphix (first published September 2016)

Genre: YA, Romance, LGBTQ+

Pages: 288

Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. A sweet and charming coming-of-age story that explores friendship, love, and coming out.

Shy and softhearted Charlie Spring sits next to rugby player Nick Nelson in class one morning. A warm and intimate friendship follows, and that soon develops into something more for Charlie, who doesn’t think he has a chance.

But Nick is struggling with feelings of his own, and as the two grow closer and take on the ups and downs of high school, they come to understand the surprising and delightful ways in which love works.” -Goodreads

My Review:

I have not read a graphic novel in so long! This one was perfect to get me out of my tunnel down the fantasy rabbit hole.

I picked it up at Target a few days ago. I finished it the next day. I am now anxiously awaiting the second one.

This volume leaves off on a cliffhanger right as we were getting to the good parts. I love stories that leave you begging for more.

The story is so cute. It focuses on two high school-aged boys falling in love. Charlie and Nick’s romance is so touching and relatable. Whoever you are and wherever your love interests are, we can all relate to the highs and very low lows of crushes and love in high school.

The illustrations are so cute. I think these like semi-minimalistic cartoon pencil drawings are perfect. The way the feelings are displayed through changing box sizes and illustrations on the background.

This graphic novel is so well done. I love it a lot.

As always, thanks for reading,
