“Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.” –Goodread
Review:
After years of waiting I have finally read this book. I am so happy with this. I was so worried that I wouldn’t like it and that I would find the story actually boring. The movie trailers looked really good but I never really got a sense of what it was about (it was a long time ago so I don’t really remember) so I was pleasantly surprised.
I wish I was a Caster. I would love to be a Natural like Lena. She was a great character. I think at times she was stubborn but you cannot have a good character if they aren’t stubborn sometimes.
I loved the story. I had ideas on how it would end but it completely shocked me. I do have one problem with how the story went. In the beginning everything was quick and fast paced and no details like everything was just said not shown. The book slowly got better though.
Ethan and Lena are my OTP. They are so cute. Not to be such a generic teenager but they were so goals. I thought the way they could talk telepathically added to the cuteness.
I thought this book was great. I want to read the second book so much. I will probably get it from the library like I did with this book. I would love to add these books to my collection but I have other books as priority.
I loved this book. It took me along time to read but it has been a while since I have read a long 500 page book. Like it has been over a year. I want to be in this world so badly. I am just gonna end this review with that.
